    Dinosaurs + bad at blogging

    Wednesday, July 1, 2009

You'd think that I wouldn't be so bad at blogging considering I've been doing it since blogging actually BEGAN way back when the internet was young and impressionable. It looks like I'm up to blogging once a month or so, going to have to fix that! Especially since I'm trying to make this my sketch blog. I am going to be posting some new stuff in my gallery today and fixing up my information since it's just collecting dust.

Anyway, I'd like to share some small dinosaur illustrations I did a little bit ago. They are dinosaurs, yes, but with a little twist. I drew them to how I had envisioned them when I was a child.

Here's the first one. These are a pair of Dilophosaurus, meaning two-crested lizard, and they were the first ones I did. As you can see, this is mixed media with Watercolor, India Ink, and Colored Pencil. I was sort of just experimenting with colors and compositions. These drawings are very small maybe about 5x5 inches or so.

These are Baryonx, they are known for a huge claw that scientists speculate they use to catch fish. I thought it would be interesting to draw them as Crocodiles in a hazy setting. I love how the colors turned out. What I find interesting about my drawings here is that they are not active like what you would see in other dinosaur drawings. It may be scientifically inaccurate but they still have this sort of mysterious air to them.

A Duckbilled dinosaur. I decided to draw it like a mommy duck and her babies. Again, these are all watercolor and pencil (some have ink others do not).

Lastly, a group of desert Brachiosaurus out on a sunny day. The atmosphere in this one really turned out well! I gave them giraffe spots because I always thought they would be colored that way, they have long necks too!

That's it for this post, I'll be back much later with other things to blog about. (Hopefully something positive in the job market~)

    dear hiring manager-

    Wednesday, June 10, 2009

    Dear Hiring Manager,

I know it's difficult in these perilous and frustrating times of a low economy to find trustworthy and diligent workers for your revered company. This is why I am offering myself as a much needed asset to your design/art firm. Are you tired of hiring people who say they are hard workers when they only give 99%? I not only have the skills and talent that your company wants but I also have the drive, motivation, persistence, and efficiency your company needs. Why hire someone who will give 99% when you can have someone who can give 200% or more?

I am always available via e-mail or cellphone and I thank you in advance for your consideration.

    Sincerely,

    Destinie Carbone

    Oh yeah, I graduated!

    Monday, June 1, 2009

I'm back from my short holiday and I've been spending a large chunk of my time on the computer today. I was using it all day at work and then I had to come home and finish some things up. I thought while I was on I would just pop in here and greet the world. I guess my profile is in need of editing now since I am a proud owner of a spiffy new Bachelor's of Science degree. Rejoice! Now I just need someone to hire me. You know you want to, big or small companies out there in the big world.

As proof of my abilities to be a diligent worker I think I will post some more art work here for you today, how does that sound?

Since I did fairly well in my painting class, I have new found confidence to share some of my newer paintings. The one above is a grpyhon but I was trying to mix an owl and a lynx together versus the traditional Lion and Eagle. I was doing this illustrations as if they were the art for trading cards. (I always wanted to do trading card artwork!)

I left the mythical animals and decided to do Folklore instead. I will update my Jersey Devil later, but the one above is an illustration of El Chupacabra, which is "Goat Sucker". Pretty cool, right? I know!
